Community need/impact
Every day in our comunity, seniors face impossible decisions - food or medicine. One in five seniors reports having to skip medication or not fill a prescription at all du to the high cost. Furthermore, according to the government analysis obtained by the National Council on Aging, one in six older Americans lives below the federal poverty line. At 15% THE PROPORTION OF SENIORS LIVING IN POVERTY IS ALSO HIGHER THAN THE PROPORTION OF ALL Americans in poverty. Access to affordable, appropriate, and nutritious food and medicine is critical to helping low-income older Aamericans maintain good health and independence during the second half of their llives. The Foundation for Sustainable Senior Centers is the result of political factors behind budget cuts on city and state public programs.
The information the student gathers will assist the Foundation for Sustainable Senors Centers to"bridge the gape for seniors" in our community in need of financial assistance to maintain their life style, improve their daily living, eliminate the need to choose between food and medicine. It will serve as a resource to adult children of seniors living in our community to help them provide these sames services to their parents from miles away. It will provide seniors in our community with invaluable resources that have been taken away from them.
