ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

Intern will conduct a variety of duties all pertaining to the well being of our students. A huge repsonsibility will be tutoring and dealing with absences. Also the student will conduct workshops dealing with financial aid, admissions process, transferring, choosing a college, and career/resume.

Population served

Our program includes students from various highschools in the Phoenix Union High School district. All the students display one at risk factor (low income family, single parent home, first generation college student, or underrepresented ethnic group) Also each one of our students begins the program at the conclusion of their sophomore year in high school and completes the program at the end of their senior year.

Community need/impact

Currently, at risk students are at an all time high. Our program specifically focuses on at-risk students not conly completing high school but moving on to a community college or university. The intern will play an instrumental part in the mental development of our students and tracking their progress. Therefore enhancing the educational level of the Central Phoenix community.

As a Student Services Assistant the intern will be instrumental in implementing the grooming of our students for success. They will conduct workshops that focus the students' minds on developing their inner strengths and applying them to their academics, future careers, and lives in general. The intern will conduct the presentations, run the activities, track the students goals and progress and guide the students among their path through the program. As an end result when the students complete the program they will be more equipped to handle college or any career they choose to pursue. Which will bring new, fresh students who are ready to contribute to our immediate community. Increasing the amount of students who are following through with their education and being successful in the workplace.
