SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Fingerprint/background clearance is required.

Fingerprint card will be required but students may work under staff  supervision until card is received.  LSS will cover the cost of the fingerprinting.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

Responsibilities will include: recruiting volunteer instructors to lead classes for wellness and skill building

Work with the women's empowerment specialist on creating lesson plans for classes

Help the specialist with the Microenterprise Development Program including finding venues to sell products made by refugee women, identifying potential community partners and assist the women with marketing and making products.

 

Population served

This program serves refugee women of all ages who have arrived in the U.S. within the past year.   These women have very little in their past that affirms their gifts and abilities.  This program is designed to help them gain self-respect and look at the possibility of employment if they desire it.

Community need/impact

The Women's Empowerment Program focuses on the well-being of refugee women through skill-building, microenterprise development, leadership, business mentorship, and education  The ultimate goal is for women to gain self-sufficienty and confidende through the development of their skills and knowledge in desired areas.

 

 

The intern will have the opportunity to be of encouragement to refugee women and motivate them to attend classes and grow in their skills.  The intern will also have the opportunity to connect with the community in recruiting volunteer teachers and will be able to represent the refugee program to the community.
