very flexible schedule, if intern is able to make and keep appointments made in advance. Some sessions can be scheduled on evenings and weekends.
REQUIRED/DESIRED SKILLS
Openness to new experiences and willingness to engage with individuals different from oneself. Ability to empathize. Good interpersonal skills. Patience. Ability to travel to the apartment complexes where recently arrived refugees are living.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
Mentor a refugee immigrant through weekly visits to the refugee's home / apartment complex. Mentoring may include activities such as teaching English (ESL), how to navigate public transportation, use of home appliances and computer, familiarity with shopping and money, and cultural activities, etc. Orientation to Catholic Charities and 'Who is a Refugee?' / 'Refugee 101' presentation are required.

Recently arrived refugees need direct support and engagement from members of the community in order to successfully resettle and integrate into our community.
Strengthens and enriches our community by creating a positive experience with refugees living in our community and by assisting in their sucessful resettlement. Creates opportunities to learn understanding, tolerance and acceptance between the refugees and the community at large.
