ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

The interns will be working with our 10th grade AVID students directly three days a week.  It is mandatory that our students write down a couple of questions as a result of their curriculum from other core classes that they would need the most help with.   The interns will be helping with these questions as well as trying to build positive relationships with our students.

Population served

Our students are at risk population and we are a Title I school.  70% of our population are McKinney Vento students and qualify for free breakfast and lunch.

The students selected for this program will most likely be the first to attend college in their family or fall under special circumstances.  The internship will serve the needs of this population by allowing more one on one services for students who may not have any resources at home.

Community need/impact

The interns will help mentor our students to help build confidence so they can be successful citizens in a competitive, global society.

With positive reinforcement through tutoring, this will help our students gain the confidence they need to go forward.  It will also allow them a chance to meet college bound students who are very successful and have a goal set.  Another positive impact is having an educated mentor that these students can relate to.
