LOCATION
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Fingerprint/background clearance is required. The fingerprints are done at our facilty in Phx at NO cost to the students. We run the background check while waiting for the personal references to come back in the mail/email. During this time there should be things the students can begin to work on. If they are at the visitation center they can train with current volunteer who has already passed everything. Training varies from one program to the next on the amount and hours needed. Time committment varies between both programs, but can be tailored to the students availability. We strongly recommend between 6mths and 1 year.

Population served
Children: Children our future and we need to offer them all the love, support and opportunities that we can to make their lives better and break the cycle that they are in.
Community need/impact
The families that are in CPS custody must have supervised visitations in order to get their children back. We serve both the parents and the children with a safe place to go to work towards unification. The tutor/mentor programs serves the children in fostercare/group homes with a person who can help them both academically and a friend.
Working at the visitation centers there is the direct impact that you can see with the families. See them getting closer and closer every week towards being together if that is the goal. Or if its just the siblings visiting then you can see them laughing and playing every week with the hopes that they can stay in touch. The tutor/mentor program allows a child to have someone to count on, someone just for them every week that can help them with their homework and or just hang out. In a group home or foster home there are sometimes 10 kids to one adult. Having that special person makes them feel special and gives them something to look forward to each week.
