ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
Interns will work directly with a classroom teacher to provide an interactive experience for the students. Duties will vary slightly from classroom to classroom. However, you can expect that you will be working directly with the children. This will usually involve reading or tutoring small groups of children or working individually with a student. The remediation you provide to these small groups will supplement the lessons administered by the certified teacher in the classroom.
Population served
Cesar Chavez Community School is a public school in the Roosevelt School district serving a disadvantaged population. 100% of our students are on a free lunch and breakfast program because they can not afford the $1.25 reduced-price lunch. Many of our students are English Language Learners and have limited exposure to English. Many of our students have experienced homelessness or are currently homeless. Many of our students are several grade levels behind academically. Every single one of our students has the potential to do wonderful things. All of the teachers at Chavez set high expectations for our student because every student deserves the opportunity for a great education.
Community need/impact
Interns will provide students with valuable learning experiences through small group instruction. Interns will serve as a role model and mentor to students and show students where they could be (college) if they continue to work hard in the classroom.
You have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of a child.
