SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Fingerprint/background clearance is required.
  • Tutor must already have a state of Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card (at own expense)
  • Tutors presenting proof of application for fingerprint clearance may work with those 18 and older until they receive their fingerprint cards.

REQUIRED/DESIRED SKILLS

  • Complete a volunteer profile at volunteer.goodwillaz.org
  • Favorable background check
    • Tutor must already have a state of Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card (at own expense)
    • Tutors presenting proof of application for fingerprint clearance may work with those 18 and older until they receive their fingerprint cards.
  • Good math, reading and writing skills. 
  • Be able to use a GED handbook, solve problems, communicate learning practices, methods or information.  
  • Be patient, understanding of learning disabilities, hold clients accountable and use positive recognition for learn successes. 
  •  Be on time to tutoring appointments. 
  • Stay focused on the tutoring subject. 
  • Intergrity and good moral behavior.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

Tutor students in the MWC Youth Ex-Offenders Program, between the ages of 14 to 21, to pass the GED using GED handbooks, paper packets or internet. 

Population served

East valley, low income, ex-offender youth between the ages of 14 and 21.

Community need/impact

Improving education, employment and pay scale to reduce or eliminate state or federal supportive programs or financial assistance. 

Create law abiding, tax paying, higher educated youth that will have stable living conditions, full time employment and financial independence.
