ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
Provide access to casework services to emergency services clients. Ensures disaster clients have immediate access to food, clothing and shelter and works with them on additional follow up needs.
Population served
Disasters impact people from all walks of life everyday. We most commonly respond to house fires and strive to provide assistance within 2 hours - 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
Our International Services programs primarily serve refugees that need to make contact with family members in their home country.
Community need/impact
Trained volunteers that are ready, willing and able to help families and individuals who have suffered loss from a disaster. We respond to house fires on a daily basis and respond to apartment fires, floods, microbursts and wildfires multiple times each year.
Red Cross workers have a direct impact on the communities they serve. Meeting with a family that has just been burned out of their homes, Red Cross workers provide immediate access to food, clothing, shelter, health and mental health resources. Follow up casework is also done with the families in the days following the disaster.
Families that are separated by armed conflict, natural disaster, or civil unrest in their home countries seek out Red Cross services to reunite their families. We reunite families both locally and abroad in these situations.
