Community need/impact

The Outreach Services Department works with lower-income youth & families to provide them some level of normalcy with their peers.  The youth are able to participate in an educational program during the mornings throughout the nine weeks of summer camp.  The youth are then rewarded with a field trip at the end of summer.  However, most families are not able to pay the full amount needed to send the child on the field trip therefore the program needs to fundraise.  The difficulty the department faces is having to coordinate and run programming while at the same time do this component.  With the back-to-school shopping event the intern will help coordinate logistics to make this event which provides between 100-140 youth/teens the opportunity to get back to school clothing and school supplies.  This event again handles coordination amongst volunteers, sponsors and youth participating.

In order to serve youth to our fullest capacity, having an intern would help serve youth in need by providing instruction on prevention programs.
