ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
The Maricopa County Cooperative Extension and UA Water Sustainability Program conduct education and outreach programs that bring information about water and the environment to children and adults. At this time, several internship opportunities are available. See descriptions below. Training and ongoing support is provided for all opportunities. No experience is required. Knowledge of science is helpful. Background check is required. Motor vehicle background may be required.
MAster Watershed Stewards
Intern with Science background will coordinate Citizen Scientist activities in the Phoenix urbaized area.The intern will assit with training volunteers to collect and organize photopoint monitoring data at established sites. The intern may also assist with new events that engage the communities in dowtown Phoenix and south Phoenix. Student will assist with Master Watershed Steward Training class which meets on Tuesday mornings October-December. Intern will work in collaboration with ASU, The City of Phoenix, and Audubon Arizona.
Population served
The people of Arizona need enough reliable, good quality water for many uses. The public needs information about water and water issues in order to make informed choices about this important resource. Thus, water education and outreach is important. The outreach internship serves people across Maricopa County. The Riparian Area internship will focus on south Phoenix, a diverse and under-served community.
Community need/impact
To help ensure a sustainable, high-quality water supply for economic development and enhanced quality of life for all of Arizona.
The intern will assist in the Water Sustainability Program's educational goals of bringing up-to-date information about Arizona's water to the people of Arizona.
