ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
Working with department director in developing, managing and operating several food service programs for children, individuals and families in need; onsite and offsite. Work will include program development, grant writing, operating logistics, purchasing, budgets and marketing of the service.
Population served
Eastern Maricopa, Gila, Pinal and the southern portions of Navajo and Apache counties. These populations are experiencing the same negative economic impact as the rest of the country; but the people in poverty levels are some of the highest in the state because of the percentage of unemployed. Resources in the rural areas are extremely limited and few.
Community need/impact
United Food Bank's primary purpose is to distribute food directly to those agencies, sites and programs who have qualified for partnership and serve those households and children with the greatest need and highest risk. This year, our food bank will distribute over 19 million pounds of food to the communities we serve, but even this much food will not meet the needs of all those in need; and the number keeps growing.
Every effort and contribution made on the part of an intern, in support of our mission, equates to one less person or family, going hungry. Each program we offer, every project we take on is a step towards relieving food insecurities for those most in need; helping them with both their immediate needs and leading them to the additional resources available, easily, comfortably and confidentially.
