ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

Interns will assist with lesson and activity planning and implementation.  Interns will serve as small group leaders for science, computers, recreation and art activities.  In addition, interns will serve as mentors and assist the DUCK students with homework and educational activities.

Population served

DUCK families are primarily Hispanic and many of their parents are Mexican immigrants.  These families are working  very hard to make a better life for their children.  Generational poverty is a huge problem with the DUCK families.  We believe that the only way to break the cycle of generational poverty is through education.  We are committed to helping kids stay and succeed in school.

Community need/impact

DUCK is an after school program for high risk inner city kids, K-5th grade. Our students live in neighborhoods with high gang and drug activity. We provide a safe place for kids after school.

Interns will serve as mentors and role models for our students in addition to helping the students succeed in school.
