The schedule can be flexible. . We are open Monday-Saturday, with groups/lessons in the morning and the evening. There might be occasional horse care needed on Sundays.
Overnight camp interns will have the opportunity to work 1-4 weeks at a facility north of Payson, AZ. Camps leave leave Monday from Scottsdale and return Friday.

REQUIRED/DESIRED SKILLS

-Ability to provide quality customer service to both internal and external customers
-Demonstrate knowledge in behavior modification techniques and can verbally discuss personal philosophy on how to implement the above.
-Background with horses/horse care and/or background with special needs children
-Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and carry for 25 yards.
-Able to bend, scoop, crawl and perform repetitive motion
-Possession of a valid drivers license and Fingerprint Clearance Card
-First Aid and CPR certified

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

-Instruction/Facilitation of riding lessons: could include any of the following- private, small group, special needs groups, life skills for at-risk youth, birthday parties, girl scout groups, overnight camps and special events.
-Fill out client forms with lesson plans and update charts as needed
-Monitor the pupil, ensuring the safety of visitors and animals
-Demonstrate skills in engaging and communicating with the public and staff
-Possess knowledge of and communicate regarding the history and purpose of Hunkapi
-Participate in special events and other promotional activities as assigned
-Work Collaboratively with other staff and departments to meet the programs overall revenue goals and objectives
-Assist in the development of new curriculum as needed
-Assist with Horse Care: turn in/out, feeding, grooming
-Assist in training new volunteers

Population served

Individuals ages 3-adult with emotional and behavioral disorders. Primary diagnosis include: Pervasive Development Disorder Spectrum, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and At-Risk Youth.

Community need/impact

-Therapeutic riding lessons for special need groups and individuals
-Group lessons teaching life skills to at-risk youth and/or special needs groups
-Overnight Camp working with at risk, low income youth

Our special needs groups, private therapeutic lessons and life skills group with at-risk youth are a great opportunity to provide individuals with horse interaction as well as teaching life skills, responsibility, care and individual growth. The intern will be assisting in group and private lessons where these needs will be fulfilled.
