COMMUNITY PARTNER

After COOL Fitness

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

After COOL Fitness engages with over 6000 kids on a weekly basis running after school fitness programs, PE classes, Field Day Events and Assembly Programs at various school districts around the valley.  As an intern, you would run our COOL fitness games and activities with kids ranging from 3 to 18 years of age.  Our goal is to get our participants excited about staying physically active and educating them about the importance of exercise.   An intern must possess great enthusiasm, energy and have a strong interest in physical activity.

Population served

The population served is pre-K to high school aged kids at schools around the valley. USL Interns will be assigned to Title I schools.

Community need/impact

Educating kids now about fitness is crucial in beginning to combat childhood obesity that is becoming more prevalent in our culture today.  With recent budget cuts in school districts, many students only participate in PE classes once to twice a week.  Plus video games, computers and other technology has taken the place of kids riding bikes or playing with neighborhood kids after school.  We strive on keeping kids moving and teaching them games they can play alone or with friends in a non-competitive environment.  Rather than focus on team sports, we teach the fundamentals behind exercising to keep kids engaged and play cool games to make fitness fun

You will serve as a mentor to every child that participates in our program.  Creating the COOL environment will make kids wanting to exercise more and learn new games they can share with family and friends.  Getting the kids excited about exercising will hopefully inspire the parents to do the same.
