ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
ASU University Service Learning Interns will assist and support TOPS Case Managers by providing the opportunity for our pregnant teen population to understand the services that are available to them and in their surrounding communities. In addition, interns will provide mentoring throughout the teen’s pregnancy and postpartum period.
All USL Interns will co-case manage teens alongside the teens’ assigned Case Manager. This is done to ensure that the teens have a continuum of care once the Intern completes his/her internship hours and departs TOPS.
Other primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to; attending all initial trainings and/or meetings for the benefit of learning all aspects of TOPS including case management, outreach/marketing, proactive parenting, pregnant and parenting support groups, volunteers/mentors and overall history and future goals of TOPS as non-profit Arizona corporation.
Below is a list of SOME of the opportunities USL Interns have with TOPS:
Assessing pregnant teens via a case management appointment, preferably face-to-face

Through this program, we hope to optimize the outcome for the mother and baby as well as help to prepare them for motherhood and the sudden lifestyle change that occurs with parenthood. By offering this unique program, we will help these high-risk teens overcome barriers that they face while encouraging them to move forward in their lives in a positive way. We hope to prevent/reduce subsequent teen pregnancies and prevent/reduce teen STDs/STIs.
