ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
ESL teacher for Refugee Resettlement clients. Meet clients at their homes/apartments; create age appropriate lessons for teaching English; facilitate learning of English including both grammar and pronunciation; provide additional guidance such as worksheets and games; maintain supportive and encouraging dialogue.
Population served
Catholic Charities refugees.
Community need/impact
Being able to speak English is essential to the refugees' ablity to integrate into the United States society and culture, and is particularly vital in securing employment.
Catholic Charities resettles approximately 1000 refugees per year. The ability to speak English will be a key component in their journey to begin again in a new land
