ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
Interns will work directly with students in grades Kindergarten through ninth grade. Opportunities exist for working with students one on one, leading groups of students in after school enrichment classes, supervising games and recreation during recess, Saturday school such as sports or art, mentoring individual students, and/or assisting students with special needs.
Population served
800 students in grades Kindergarten through grade 9
Our students need mentors, and examples of "real" college students to understand that college is a possibility for them.
Community need/impact
ASU Preparatory Academy Phoenix is an urban, inner city school serving a large population of students who are eligible for "free and reduced" lunch. Students need role models who can share a passion and love for learning and articulate the need for excellence in school.
Interns will serve as positive role models for students. Interns will help students will improve academic skills by giving tutoring and/or teaching. Families and students will make a connection to college students enrolled in higher education. Setting goals for future success will be enhanced and encouraged.
