Youth Fitness Assistant
LOCATION
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Fingerprint/background clearance is required.Background check will be covered by Valley of the Sun YMCA and takes about 24 hrs. Intern will not need fingerprint clearance. The intern will be given 30 days to complete CPR/ AED and first aid training which will be provided by the YMCA. Intern may begin working as soon as background is completed.

REQUIRED/DESIRED SKILLS
- 18 years of age or older
- Current state approved first-aid certification (or acquire within first 30 days)
- Current CPR (or acquire within first 30 days)
- Knowledge and experience of health/fitness including demonstrated ability to teach and train different levels and abilities of fitness for youth.
- Ability to communicate effectively with youth members, staff, peers, volunteers, and supervisor.
- Ability to effectively communicate information on YMCA Health/Fitness Programs.
- Ability to motivate and coach others.
- Knowledge of staff/volunteer supervision and program management preferred.
- Bilingual is a plus, but not required.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
Coordinates and supervises youth health/fitness programs and staff. Fitness center duties and/or teaches classes as assigned. The Student Intern will assist in the creating of programing for the Youth Obesity program. This will include Pre and Post program testing, Activity Program, Nutrition, and Grant Funding.
Population served
The majority of the population surrounding South Mountain YMCA is perdominately Hispanic. this community has a large percentage of obese children.
Community need/impact
The South Mountain YMCA is in Partnership with Mountain Park Medical Center. This partnership allows children ages 5-14 with a medical perscription to be involve in Activate Arizona Kids Club which is a Youth Obesity Prevention Program for free.
Positively impact the health and well-being of community children.
