Students may have a variety of disabilities including specific learning disabilities, mild mental retardation, cognitive impairments, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional/psychological disabilities and/or speech/hearing impairments – therefore, tutors must be patient and be willing work creatively with diverse learners.

Community need/impact

Youth with lower test scores experience more obstacles in finding career opportunities and employment.  Tutors who assist individuals with disabilities increase their basic skills will provide the community with more employable and productive citizens.

Youth in our programs are low income and face significant barriers to education and employment. In order to advance in life, these youth need basic reading, math, and writing skills so they can become more self-confident, support themselves, and achieve their dreams.

Helping youth increase their basic reading, math and language skills will help them become more self sufficient by providing them a chance for better career opportunities and employment.
