REQUIRED/DESIRED SKILLS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Currently working towards a Bachelor's degree from a four-year university.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals and health literature.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in verbal or written form.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
- Work with Programs & Services Department to facilitate the creation, marking, and implementation of programs in Maricopa County and throughout the state.
- Expand and improve self-help groups throughout the State by visiting groups, interacting with leaders, evaluating group cohesiveness and dynamics, representing the Chapter at these group meetings, making occasional presentations on MS related topics, and other duties as assigned.
- Assist in program participant messaging (web blurbs, social media updates, eblasts).
- Update calendar listings as necessary.
- Assist with Advocacy Action Alerts.
- Help to strengthen and build community relationships through NMSS Service Provider database.
- Assist Programs & Services staff with outreach to the rural communities and underserved populations.
- Complete financial assistance applications for clients if needed.
- Attend and participate in the Chapter and Programs Committee meetings every other month and monthly staff meetings.
- Attend and participate in monthly MS Clinics at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital and the Mayo Clinic, if schedule permits.
Population served
Our MS community consists of approximately 14,000 people affected by MS in Arizona, including clients, family members and friends.
Community need/impact
200 people are diagnosed every week with MS. Therefore our need in the community continues to grow.
You will be making a difference in the lives of many poeple. Our organization utilizes staff and volunteers to plan programs for people living with MS and their families in order to live a high quality of life. You will be joining in those efforts and will be directly working with clients and family members. It is such an amazing opportunity to make contacts and make a difference in the lives of many people affected by MS.
