ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
- Meet with community members through volunteering with recipient organizations to determine needs
- Research and prepare solicitation for donations of service, time, money
- Meet with community members applying for funds and prioritize recipients and their needs
- Brainstorm and implementation of fundraising events and activites
Population served
Unfortunately we continue to battle for equal rights for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender community members. They are a minority group that suffers oppression in today's world with limited resources made scarce due to social barriers that prohibit/limit advancement and sometimes even fair treatment.
Community need/impact
The LGTB community is in need of emotional and financial support for resources (education, medical, legal, and mental) and often cannot connect with the limited resources that exist today (or are excluded from services.)
The positive impact for interns will be their participation in facilitation the equal rights of a community with little representation in society with many needs, some of which have been considered basic rights throughout history. It is a chance to make a difference on a very basic level.
