ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
Our school is working with the Maricopa County Education Service Agency through a grant that allows us the opportunity to work with students from 4th - 6th grade. The agency sets up everything that the intern will need to help these students out with their reading fluency and they will also provide training for those interns interested. Our school is also looking for students to help our 1st & 2nd graders with their reading. The Math Specialist at our school is looking for someone to help with small group interventions.
Population served
The intership service learning ASU students will have the opportunity to serve students in grades first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth. ASU students will work with individual students at providing support for those students that have not mastered skills or extend learning for students that have reached mastery.
Community need/impact
The students at IBES can benefit from the ongoing support to reach proficiency in reading and math. Having volunteers increases the number of adults that can dedicate time to students. The purpose is to enhance skills for those students that show academic deficiencies or provide enichment experiences for students that have demonstrated mastery.
The ASU students working with the IBES student population that demonstrates academic deficiencies will have the oppotunity to provide support in an effort to increase skill knowledge to aide students in reaching grade level proficiency.
The ASU students working with the IBES student population that has mastered skills will have the opportunity to extend student knowledge through the use of project based/ interest based learning.
