SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Fingerprint/background clearance is required.
Training required which may significantly delay start of service hours or which needs to be completed prior to the start of the semester.

We require the volunteer to participate in our on-boarding process.  That includes, drug screen, background check, and 2 step TB test. There is no cost to the volunteer.  In addition, we have a mandatory training program that can be completed in 1 full day and 1/2 day field training.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

Volunteers are members of a professional care team that includes doctors, nurses, aids, chaplains and counselors. They may work directly or indirectly with patients and families, providing companionship and emotional support that includes: sharing hobbies, writing a letter, providing caregiver support, and helping families navigate the grief process during the first year of loss.

Population served

Hospice patients, typically senior adults in the last 6 months of life and their families.

Hospice volunteering is a unique challenge that allows you to extend your individual skills, talents, and compassion to people who need them most. Volunteers are fundamental to the hospice concept and are a vital part of the hospice team, serving as an inspiration to patients, families and staff

Volunteering with our hospice patients and their families is invaluable.  You will provide joy and companionship to people who are finding peace in the last days of their lives.  Many of our patients don't have families in the area or at all and your presences as a volunteer will be bring ablsolute happiness and comfort.
