Encoded Textiles Collaborative
The Encoded Textiles Project is a community-institutional partnership that explores the realities surrounding endangered languages and the potential of lost cultures. This project employs scholars in aesthetics, American Indian Studies, cultural anthropology, design and engineering, indigenous histories and literatures, linguistics, oral history, and sociology. The project also engages a significant outreach component to both indigenous and non-indigenous communities.
Our ETC/ASU partnership will lead to new and exciting discourses about the endangerment and preservation of indigenous languages and cultures in the digital world and add depth to the work presented by the artists in the Encoded Textiles Exhibition and its menu of supporting programs. Interactive digital media will drive and enhance the intergenerational importance and impact of this exhibit. The overarching project gauges the efficacy of technology and social media in restoring, preserving, and maintaining the languages and cultures.
