SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Fingerprint/background clearance is required.
  • Level One Fingerprint Clearance
  • Cost: $65
  • Processing time to get the card varies
  • Students may begin while waiting for background clearance. Will just need to provide proof that the application was submitted.

REQUIRED/DESIRED SKILLS

  • Strong Math background.
  • Must be patient and have a strong desire to help students.
  • Willingness and ability to motivate and challenge students and help them overcome any frustrations with math.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

  • Providing Math tutoring assistance to students grades1 -12.
  • Facilitate tutorial sessions with individual students or small groups.

 

Population served

The population being served consists of students in the Central City South community. 48% of the residents in this community do not have a high school education and 52% live below the poverty line. Students need additional assistance with their homework and their parents/guardians may not be able to assist.

Community need/impact

Several students in this community are struggling with their homework. One of our schools went from an A+ rating to a C. Students need more one-on-one or small group interaction to address their questions and help them to perform better in their classes.

The intern will make a difference in our community by helping students to feel more confident in their skills and abilities. This will help them to remain actively engaged in their school work and prevent them from dropping out of school.
