Hospice Intern
LOCATION
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Fingerprint/background clearance is required.Training required which may significantly delay start of service hours or which needs to be completed prior to the start of the semester.
Interns will be required to attend a volunteer training/orientation, TB test and background check which Hospice of the Southwest will provide free of charge.
The orientation will last 2 days in which the intern will learn about the Hospice Philosphy, Communication Skills, Concepts of Death and Dying, Understanding the Disease Process and Physical Aspects of the Terminally Ill, Pain and Symptom Management, Professional Boundries.
The background check and tb test results will be completed within 48-72 hours. Student will be able to start service within 7 days of completion of orientation/tb/background check.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
Hospice of the Southwest has internship opportunities in the East, West, North and Central Valley. Provides physical, psycho social and spirtual support to the Hospice client and family. Interns can visit with our patients for socialization, companioship, respite care. Interns can offer interactive music, read, provide spiritual comfort, and journal patients life journey to leave a legacy for loved ones. Be present by holding someones hand for comfort and support.
Interns may also help in community events, recruiting volunteers and marketing the Hospice philosphy.
Population served
Adult and elderly population with a terminal illness and a prognosis of 6 months or less to live.

Hospice of the Southwest is to exceed the expectations of our clients and their family's by providing excellent care and to meet the Hospice care needs of patient and their loved ones.
