Arizonans for Children

Mission: 

Our programs and services are available to all children in Maricopa County from infant to 18 years who are in the custody of Child Protective Services living in group homes, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters or in private foster care. All clients are welcome regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin or disability.

Arizonans for Children, Inc. (AFC) exists to facilitate opportunities and provide effective solutions to improve and stabilize the fragile lives of abused, neglected and abandoned children in child protective custody in Arizona.

Duties Semester
Tutor/Mentor Fingerprint/background clearance is required.

Take the lead in supporting a young person through an ongoing, one to one relationship. Serve as a positive role model and friend. Build the relationship by planning and participating in activities together. Strive for mutual respect. Build self esteem and motivation. Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them. Assist your mentee in developing academic and behavioral goals and setting rewards for the achievement of those goals
Fall (mid-August through mid-December)
Spring (early January through late April)
Summer (mid-May through mid-July)
Various (abused/neglected youth: MESA) Fingerprint/background clearance is required.

We have 2 Programs: Visitation Center & Tutor/Mentor

  1. Visitation Center:
    Greet clients, Give tours of Center, Facilitate Visitations and answer questions, Fill out minimal amount of paper work, Instruct clients on rules regarding use of the Center, Provide clients with safe, warm, non-judgmental atmosphere, Act as liaison between church personnel and clients. There is cleaning required during and after...

Training required which may significantly delay start of service hours or which needs to be completed prior to the start of the semester.
