ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

ASU student will be assisting in our mentoring department in several areas. Either in mentoring one-on-one with a student kindergarten to 12th grade, helping with tutoring a group of students in the mentoring program, organizing fundraiser for the youth to participate in, and/or organizing mentoring activities.

Population served

98% Hispanic, 1% African American, <1% white, <1% Native American…A large immigrant population as well as the majority of families under the poverty line for Arizona.

Community need/impact

Due to underperforming schools in our areas many of the youth in our community are deficient in basic educational skills and would benefit from one-on-one tutoring and mentoring. They have had limited opportunities to grow outside of their neighborhood and our organization helps to provide opportunities, build skills, and empower youth.

The opportunity for impact is huge. However much the intern chooses to be present and authentic in building relationships with our youth is directly related to amount on impact on both the youth and the intern.
