Community need/impact
Horny Toad Farm is located in a low-income community and provides locally grown natural produce at low prices to serve this community at the farm's produce stand. In addition, HTF is starting a WIC Farmers Market at the Farm and many people who receive WIC Farmers Market checks do not have access to typical farmers markets so this will serve many of the low-income communities near the Farm. This area in South Phoenix does not have access to healthy, local, natural, fresh produce and also needs education on the importance of a healthy diet.
Horny Toad Farm has been working with low-income communities for over four years but due to a lack of resources HTF has been unable to fully develop its Community Program. With an intern, HTF will develop its Community Program and work toward its mission to educate low-income families about healthy food, growing their own food, and the importance of local, natural, fresh produce. An intern will allow the Community Program to reach hundreds of families this year.
