ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

The intern will participate in discussion about product design with the program coordinator and teach sewing skills on the sewing machines, teach sewing vocabulary in English,and help clients how to make the projects selected.  The intern will follow the prescribed curriculum for the sewing class.  The intern will help clients understand how to make various projects such as bags, accessories, and home/kitchen items.  The products will be made and sold through the Women's Empowerment Program.

Population served

Refugee women from Bhutan, Burma, Iraq, Congo, Somalia, Cuba need assistance in developing their sewing skills.

Community need/impact

Refugee women want to learn or improve their sewing skills in order to begin producing products that can be sold.  This will help with their family becomming self sufficient and financially stable.

When refugees are self-sufficient and financially stable, the community is stronger.
