Doors are open 24 hours a day but staff is on site from 8am-9pm.

REQUIRED/DESIRED SKILLS

• Experience in facilitating group presentations and discussions
• Background in social work or life skills training preferred but not obligatory
• knowledge of life skills and appropriate resources
• Good interpersonal skills and sense of empathy
• Understanding of at-risk populations
• Commitment to regularly scheduled volunteer time
• Must maintain confidentiality of participant related information
• Must pass a thorough background check
• Must be at least 21 years of age

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Duties

• Provide life skills workshops to DIGNITY clients
• Encourage the client’s sense of positive self esteem
• Engage clients in dialogue about communication, relationships, and boundaries
• Provide training on financial management
• Organize guest speakers for specific topics
• Conduct self in a courteous manner with program participants and staff
• Maintain appropriate record of volunteer time served

Population served

Women over 18 leaving prostitution/ Sex-trafficking, addiction/alcoholism. Most of these women are homeless and have been controlled by a pimp or trafficer on the streets.  

Community need/impact

DIGNITY (Developing Individual Growth and New Independence Through Yourself) helps women to leave prostitution and rebuild their lives.

This volunteer position is a vital contribution to this work and the Catholic Charities’ mission to affirm all people’s dignity.

These groups will help women become productive members of society.
