ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Duties
Fingerprint/background clearance is required.
Intern duties include: Assisting with instructing children in small-group reading and math activities, working with individual children or small groups of children to reinforce new skills initially introduced by the Reading Specialist or classroom teacher, and assisting with implementing special strategies for reinforcing skills based on the needs and abilities of each child.
Population served
We have approimately 800 K-8th grade students at our school. We are a growing population of students who come for a quality education program. We have students who come to our school with many different educational backgrounds. We pride ourselves on giving each and every student the opportunity to be the best student they can be. We provide individualized intervention programs. We use as many staff members as we can but are in need of more staff so we can service all of the students we needing additional help.
Community need/impact
Calibre is a Title I K - 8th grade school. We have students who need an extra dose of instruction in a small group setting. The smaller the groups the better "turns" or practice the student will get. Any extra support staff we can have gives better opportunity for a small group setting.
Working with students is very rewarding and a gift. When the lightbulb goes on for a child the excitement and pride they have is indiscribable. Students know when they are low or lacking in a skill. When someone takes the time to help them get caught up the impact on them is priceless. Interns will be helping children be successful in school and want to stay in school until graduation. Interns will be helping our future!
