Leaps and Bounds

Hosting a Workshop

Any organization or agency that provides educational services or programs for young children or connects with parents of young children is a good candidate for hosting an ASU Leaps and Bounds workshop. Current partners include schools, daycares, non-profits, and libraries. Primary responsibilities of the hosting agency or organization involve arranging site location for the workshop and recruiting parents to participate.

FAQ

Do you offer the parent workshop in Spanish?
Yes. The parent workshop can be facilitated in English or Spanish and is supported in either language through the use of bilingual curriculum materials.
How long is the workshop for parents?
The parent workshop series consists of four sessions (typically scheduled once per week) and range from 1 to 2 hours in duration.
Can children attend the workshop too?
Yes. Children ages 3 to 5 years of age are encouraged to attend with their parents.* Both parent and child participation are integral for program success. Parents receive the opportunity and materials to guide their parenting behaviors at home, while children engage in the learning process and can request involvement in similar activities once they have returned home.
*Note: Activities are designed for the preschool child and we strongly discourage parents from bringing babies or toddlers to the workshop. We recommend that agencies offer childcare for parents unable to arrange childcare for their babies and toddlers.
How many parents and children can enroll in a workshop?
You work with the ASU Leaps and Bounds Coordinator to determine enrollment based on the size of your venue and the number of support staff available.

About the Program

ASU Leaps and Bounds is a kindergarten readiness program that offers interactive workshops for parents and training and professional development opportunities for early childhood professionals. The program maintains the philosophy that parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. The program assists parents in their efforts to help children become ready to learn and ease the transition from home to school. Program administrators work in partnership with Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College early childhood education faculty to deliver high-quality curricula and programming.

Programs

PARENT WORKSHOP

Teaches fun, learning activities that parents can engage in with their preschool child, ages three to five years old. Through practice of these activities, children are better prepared to enter kindergarten ready to learn. The low-cost activities are designed to support various domains of early learning, giving special attention to social-emotional development.
